Delhi: Heritage walks at ‘haunted’ monuments soon

According to the most recent news reports, the Delhi Tourism Department is all set to begin a pilot project for guided tours to these monuments after hours, making “haunted” walks at Malcha Mahal, Bhuli Bhatiyari ka Mahal, Feroz Shah Kotla, and Tughlaqabad Fort soon a reality.

Recently, the department launched heritage walks ahead of the G20 summit — Dekho apna CP, Walk in Hauz Khas, Heritage walk of Shahjahanabad From 6:30 am to 9:30 am. These walks will take place from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

An authority from the travel industry division added that have gotten a ton of reactions from sightseers and local people partaking in legacy strolls, and since the program was sent off, a ton of questions are coming from individuals about the supposed tormented places, while many have requested that we direct visits there and the office is investigating tormented or phantom strolls.

The primary walk will begin with the Malcha Mahal, which is set in the core of the Capital in the Edge close to Chanakyapuri, which is a fourteenth century landmark and is situated inside the woodland region, around 1.5 km a long way from the fundamental street.

A second hunting lodge near Karol Bagh, Bhuli Bhatiyari ka Mahal, Feroz Shah Kotla, and Tughlaqabad Fort, will be added on a pilot basis. The first such walk will be at Malcha Mahal. The official went on to say that they will be adding more parks and monuments after evaluating the response.

“While Bhuli Bhatiyari ka Mahal is in the Ridge, there is a belief that there is the presence of djinns in Feroz Shah Kotla,” the official continued. Still, people come here to tie locks and threads. These kinds of initiatives will help in promoting tourism as well as create employment and revenue because Delhi is a transit point for tourists. Most of them stay in the city for a day and visit places like the Lotus Temple, India Gate, Qutub Minar, War Memorial, and a few others.

Furthermore, very much like the legacy strolls, around six ‘tormented’ strolls at one landmark every day will be added. There will be one walk conductor or guide and twenty members in each group. “It will be a walk of two to three hours,” the official continued. There will be storytellers, walk conductors, historians, and registered tour guides in addition to an official from the tourism department. They will begin with the history of Delhi, the monument, and haunting tales about the monument.

The walk will begin close to the site and range in length from 1.5 to 2 kilometers, while tourists will be picked up from a designated pick-up location. People will be able to book their walks through the “Dekho Meri DILLI” mobile app and delhitourism.gov.in once it is officially launched.

A walk conductor or guide and a kit that includes a torch, stick, jute bag with the words “haunted walk” written on it, a cap, badge, band, water bottle, juice, seasonal fruit, and muffin will cost around INR 1,000 per person.
